Erica talks about how this is a relatively new field that has only grown in the last 10 years. They are prevalent in the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) companies where customers buy subscriptions to software, and Customer Success Managers come in to manage the relationship with customers and ensure satisfaction. 
Customer Success is a highly strategic role that partners with customers and helps customer maximize the use of their software service. They use data, metrics, teaching, and influencing skills to manage the relationships, and partner with Sales.
